That vinegar trick for rust removal works way better than I thought
Left a old farrier rasp in white vinegar for 24 hours and the rust just wiped off clean. Why do so many guys still use wire wheels and grinders for this? Anyone got a soak time they swear by for heavy pitting?

Right? It is SO satisfying watching that rust just melt off. I tried it on an old cast iron skillet I found at a garage sale, left it for a FULL 48 hours because the pitting was gross, and it turned out better than the new ones. That wire wheel method is just SUPER aggressive and you end up eating away good metal half the time. For really heavy stuff I do a 50/50 vinegar and water mix and leave it for a day and a half, checking every few hours. The key is to scrub it with a stiff nylon brush after, not steel wool, so you don't scratch the surface. Honestly once you see how clean it comes out you'll NEVER go back to grinding.

48 hours in vinegar" @angela43? That skillet must smell like a pickle factory.
