Picked up a trick from an old farrier about heating horseshoes unevenly
I was at a shop in rural Kentucky last Saturday watching a farrier work, and he told me to heat the toe of a shoe about 20 seconds longer than the heels. Tried it on a set of shoes for a draft horse and the fit was way better on the hoof wall. Has anyone else messed with uneven heating like that, or is this just something for big horses?

Not sure a few seconds of heat makes that big a difference honestly.

Used to think the same thing @diana_king. Then I actually tried it and felt the difference in just a couple seconds.

My old Chevy truck does the same thing actually. Took me forever to figure out the passenger side tire wears faster unless I let it warm up an extra minute before I drive anywhere. Same principle applies to a lawnmower blade too if you sharpen one side longer than the other it cuts straighter through thick wet grass. Realized it's not just big horses or heavy equipment, it's about how heat and metal settle into their work. Little imbalances everywhere if you pay attention.
