Met this retired farrier at a hammer-in last spring, he told me I was running my forge way too hot for welds. Said to watch for that slight shimmer off the steel instead of cranking it until it's white. Tried his trick on a chain link repair yesterday, stuck first try with no cold shuts. I'd been fighting welds for 2 years using a magnet and guessing. Anyone else get told to ditch the magnet and trust the color?
