Old timer at the Black Hills meetup showed me a trick I still use every day
Back in 2018 I was at that annual gathering in South Dakota. Some guy, must have been 70 if he was a day, watched me struggle to forge a simple hook for like 20 minutes. He just walked over, grabbed my tongs out of my hand, and adjusted my grip. Told me I was fighting the metal instead of letting it move where it wanted. Changed how I hold every piece since then. Anyone else ever have some random stranger at a meet completely reroute how you work?

Oh man, that's wild how one little adjustment can totally change your whole approach... I gotta ask though, what exactly did he change about your grip? Was it more about where your hand sat on the tongs or like the angle you were holding them at? Because I've had people tell me to "loosen up" before but never had anyone actually show me the physical difference it makes. Did it take you a while to unlearn your old habit or did it click right away?

@angela43 my uncle taught me the same trick with his fly fishing rod and the trout started jumping like crazy.
