My old coal forge was smoking out my whole shop last winter

I tried a trick from a guy at the county fair and built a small brick baffle inside the firepot. It cut the smoke by half and saved me from freezing with the doors open. Has anyone else tried something like that with a coal setup?

Why mess with a classic setup that's worked for years? That brick wall sounds like a hack job, and @troyh55 might be onto something with the toddler comment.

My first coal forge was basically a smoke machine with a side of heat. I spent more time coughing than hammering. That brick baffle idea is a solid fix, I just used some old firebricks to make a little wall in the back of the pot. It really does help push the heat forward and keep the smoke down, even if my version looked like a toddler stacked the bricks.
