Just dropped $450 on a proper post vise and it's already paid for itself

I was using a cheap bench vise for years and it would always twist and slip on heavy scroll work. Finally bit the bullet and got a solid 6-inch post vise from a local estate sale. Mounted it to a stump in my shop last week. The difference is night and day, I can hold a piece steady with one hand and hammer with the other without any wobble. Anyone have a good method for keeping the screw threads clean from scale and grit?

Read somewhere that beeswax works wonders on screw threads.

My old vise was the same way, it would rock a full inch side to side when I tried to straighten a thick bar. That constant fight just drains your energy. I keep a cheap chip brush and a little can of light oil by my post vise. After a session I brush out the threads and give them a quick wipe with an oily rag. It's not perfect but it keeps things moving.

Oh man, that "constant fight" feeling is so real. My old vise would stick so bad on the last few turns, I'd have to tap the handle with a mallet. I started keeping a little tub of grease mixed with graphite powder for the screw, and it made a huge difference. What kind of oil do you find works best?
