Had to choose between a coal forge and a propane one for my new shop
I've been forging for about 3 years in my buddy's garage using his old coal forge, but when I finally got my own space I had to pick what to build. Coal is cheaper per pound and I know how to manage the fire, but propane is cleaner and I could work without a hood chimney. I went with propane since my shop is in a small shed with limited ventilation. Now after 6 months I kinda miss the control you get with coal, especially on drawn out pieces like chef knives. Anyone else made the switch and ended up going back?

Blow a fuse with that coal yet or just miss the smell of burning your eyebrows off?

Got my eyebrows back finally but now I'm spending all the propane savings on therapy for missing coal
