A guy in Spokane fixed my wrist with a simple trick at his anvil

Last fall I was gripping my hammer all wrong, and this older smith at a demo in Spokane just watched me for a minute, then said "stop strangling the handle," and showed me a loose finger wrap that saved my elbow in one afternoon. Has anyone else had a random stranger's tip completely change how you hold your tongs or hammer?

You ever get one of those tips that makes you feel stupid for not figuring it out yourself? I had a guy at a flea market show me how to choke up on my tongs so I wasn't fighting the metal all day. Fixed my grip in like two minutes.
