Unpopular opinion: watching shows at 1.5x speed ruined my Sunday night marathons
Two weeks ago I sat down at 8pm on a Sunday in my apartment in Sacramento to finally finish The Bear, and I decided to try that speed up trick everyone talks about. I put the playback on 1.5x and knocked out 5 episodes by 10pm, feeling like a genius. Then Monday morning I tried to tell my coworker about the big kitchen scene, and I could not remember a single line or even who was in the room. It was like I watched a slideshow of the plot instead of the show. So after work I went back and watched those same 5 episodes at normal speed over Tuesday and Wednesday. It took me 2 nights instead of 2 hours, but the tense moments felt tense, and the jokes landed because the pauses were there. Now I only use the speed up button for shows I already know I will not care about, like old sitcom reruns I put on for noise. Does anyone else feel like speeding up a show you actually like just steals the good parts from you?
