Spent 3 months watching The Wire one episode a night and it never clicked until I binged 4 in a row
I started The Wire back in January and did the one episode per night thing for about 3 months. I kept telling my brother in Baltimore it was fine but I wasn't hooked, and he said to try 4 episodes back to back on a Saturday. Did that last weekend and by episode 4 of season 2 I finally got why people call it the best show ever. The slow burn needs momentum or you lose the threads between episodes. Anyone else find that some shows just don't work in small doses?
Season 2 episode 4 is such a random spot to finally get it, but that is exactly how it happened for me too. I did the same thing with The Sopranos, one a week for two months, and I kept falling asleep. Then I watched six in one weekend and suddenly I knew every guy's name and what they owed who. One episode a night just does not give the story room to build. You end up forgetting the small stuff between sittings, and the small stuff is the whole point. Shows like this are basically long movies cut into pieces, so watching them in pieces kills the pacing.
