Shoutout to the 2 season shows that knew when to quit vs the ones that dragged on for 6
I binged The Bear season 1 and 2 back in March and then season 3 last month and something felt off. I mean the first two seasons I finished in like 3 days each, just glued to it. But season 3 took me almost 2 weeks because it felt like they were just filling time. Idk maybe it's just me but I started thinking about how some shows tell a tight story and get out while others stick around way too long. Like I finally watched Fleabag last year and that's only 2 seasons and it was perfect, no wasted episode. Then I tried to get through the last season of that one big drama everyone talks about and I quit around episode 4, just could not care anymore. So is it better to have a show that ends early and leaves you wanting more, or one that gives you 8 seasons even if the last 4 are rough? Curious what you all think.
Have you noticed how the two season shows never have that one random episode where nothing happens, the one you skip on a rewatch? Take Fleabag, every single scene is doing something, even the quiet ones with the hot priest. Compare that to a show on season 6 where they clearly needed 10 episodes but only had enough story for 6, so you get a bottle episode or a flashback nobody asked for. That's the trade off for me, a short show stays sharp because the writers never had room to slack off. I'll take 12 great episodes over 60 okay ones any day.
