My friend told me to skip the first season of a show and I'm mad she was right

My friend Sarah said, 'Just start with season 2 of The Office, trust me.' I ignored her and watched the whole first season last week. It was a real slog and I almost quit the show. Now I'm on season 3 and it's so much better, but I'm annoyed I wasted that time. Has anyone else had a show where the start is just bad advice?

What about shows where the first season is actually the best part? I feel like some shows peak early and then get worse, which is its own kind of bummer.

My old roommate bought this huge, fancy coffee maker that took ten minutes just to heat up. We used it maybe twice before it went back in the box. Feels like a lot of things are sold on that first great impression, but the long-term experience is a letdown.
