Just found out 'The Last of Us' season 1 used over 400,000 gallons of fake rain...

Read that in a production article from HBO. Makes all those soggy scenes way more impressive to think about now. Anyone know other shows that went all out on a single effect like that?

That fake rain stat is wild. It makes you realize how much water they must waste just for a shot that lasts a few seconds. I remember reading that the old "Titanic" movie used a huge heated pool for the ocean scenes. They built the whole set in a tank and just went for it. Some productions really don't hold back.

Yeah I read somewhere that the rain machines on big movies use like 50,000 gallons a day sometimes. It's not just the water either, they have to heat it if the scene is supposed to be warm or people will get sick standing in it for hours. I think on "Blade Runner 2049" they recycled the rain water through a filtration system so it wasn't a total waste, but most productions just let it drain. Still, the end result looks incredible so I guess they figure the cost is worth it.
