I finally watched the first and last episodes of 'The Good Place' back to back
I saw the pilot when it aired in 2016 and thought it was just a funny show about heaven. I just watched the series finale last night. The difference is huge, because the whole show's point changed over four seasons from a simple sitcom to a deep look at what it means to be good. They slowly built up the rules of the afterlife and the characters' growth, so by the end it felt totally different. Has anyone else had a show change its whole feel on them like that?

But did the change make it better?

Actually felt like the show lost its funny edge by getting too serious.

You ever watch a show that starts out as a comedy and then halfway through someone dies and suddenly nobody's laughing? It's like your favorite pizza place suddenly decides to serve nothing but broccoli. I mean, I get wanting to be taken seriously, but if I wanted drama I'd just watch the news.
