Had to pick between watching The Expanse or Dark last weekend

I finally had a free weekend after like 3 months of working doubles and I knew I only had time to really commit to one show. The Expanse has been on my list forever because I love space stuff, but Dark kept popping up in every thread here and everyone says you gotta pay total attention. I went with Dark and man, what a ride. The first episode had me confused but by episode 3 I was all in, writing down names on a piece of paper like a crazy person. I finished the whole first season in two days and now I'm worried season 2 is gonna mess with my sleep schedule. Has anyone else gotten totally lost in a show's timeline and had to take notes to keep up?

Why would anyone need notes when a show should just explain itself properly?

@jones.brooke some shows have dense lore or complex plots that notes help keep straight.
