Appreciation post: I finally gave that weird animated show a shot and it's actually amazing

For a long time, I kept seeing people talk about 'Arcane' and I just wrote it off as another video game cartoon. I finally watched the first episode about two weeks ago because my friend would not stop telling me to. The animation style alone blew me away, it's like a moving painting. I ended up watching the entire first season in two days, which is something I never do. The story about the two sisters from different cities just hooked me completely. Has anyone else been surprised by a show they thought they would hate?

Huh, I had the total opposite experience. I watched it because of the hype and found it kind of a slog. The animation is cool, but the story felt really slow to me, like they spent forever on the childhood stuff. I got bored waiting for something to actually happen and stopped after a few episodes. Just felt like a lot of style over substance.

Yeah, that slow burn thing happens a lot now, feels like everything needs to be a huge build-up.

Did you read that article someone linked about how streaming services are dragging out shows on purpose? I saw something about how they stretch out the story just to keep people subscribed longer. Makes sense with how some of these series feel like they're padded with filler episodes. The childhood stuff might matter later, but if it makes people stop watching, what's the point of taking that long to get there?
