A friend's throwaway comment about 'background TV' made me rethink my whole watchlist
They said they only put on shows they've already seen just to have noise, and it hit me that I've been doing the same thing with new series lately. Has anyone else caught themselves half-watching something just to feel productive, or is it just me?

The last episode I "watched" of a new show was the finale of a true crime doc, and I realized I couldn't name the victim or the killer. I had folded three loads of laundry and meal-prepped for the week during it. That's not watching TV, that's just having a podcast with better lighting. Half the time the background noise is the point, like how some folks leave sports on during Thanksgiving dinner but nobody's actually rooting. The real trick is admitting that some shows are better as wallpaper than actual entertainment, and there's no shame in just picking an old sitcom you've seen ten times instead of pretending a new drama is holding your attention.
