Visited my buddy's new house in Tacoma last weekend and noticed something weird about his water heater setup
He had the pressure relief valve dumping right into a bucket on the floor instead of a drain pipe. Told him that's a flood waiting to happen and he just shrugged. Has anyone else seen this kind of DIY shortcut that makes no sense?

Four years ago I noticed the same kind of thing at my sister's place in Portland, where she had a washing machine drain hose just shoved into a floor drain with no clamp. @spencer_hayes71 that bucket setup is definitely asking for trouble, but I see this sort of lazy thinking everywhere now. People will spend thousands on a fancy water heater but skip a ten dollar part to vent it properly, like the whole concept of preventing a problem before it happens is lost on them.

Did you ever find out if the bucket was just for show or actually did anything?
