Tried to save $50 fixing my own dryer belt and ended up with a lint fire in the basement

I watched a 10 minute YouTube video, got the belt on after an hour of fighting, and then the whole thing caught fire because I forgot to clean the lint trap housing before I closed it back up has anyone else had a simple diy job turn into a total disaster like that?

My buddy told me he read somewhere that lint fires cause like 15,000 home fires every year in the US, and now I see why. Your post makes me want to double check my own dryer setup before I touch anything else. At least you helped teach me what not to do, right?

Yep, clean that lint trap every single load and check the vent hose yearly, trust me.
