TIL the hard way that iced coffee and a laptop don't mix, $600 later
Last Tuesday I was killing time at a Starbucks in Austin before a big meeting, and I set my coffee on the arm of the chair while I pulled up my presentation. Of course the cup was top heavy and the lid popped off, sending a cold brew waterfall right into my keyboard. It shorted out instantly, and the repair quote came back at $600, which is more than I paid for the laptop originally. The worst part is my boss saw the whole thing via video call and just said 'that's going to be a long meeting' without missing a beat. Has anyone else had a drink ruin a device in a way that made everyone around you laugh?

That coffee on the arm of the chair move is basically asking for trouble. A desk or table is right there for a reason, but I guess we all learn that lesson the hard way sometimes.
Honestly, that's cheap insurance compared to what some folks pay when they spill on a work-issued machine. Plus, now you have a good story and a boss who clearly knows how to deliver a punchline.
