That time I locked my keys in the car with the engine running at a gas station
Happened last Tuesday at a Shell off I-75 in Dayton. I got out to pump gas, shut the door, and the auto-lock clicked right as I realized my purse was still on the passenger seat. The engine was purring away while I stood there for 45 minutes waiting for AAA, watching the meter tick up 2 miles of fuel for nothing. The tow guy finally popped it with an air wedge and said, "Happens about five times a day, don't sweat it." Anyone else ever done this with the AC blasting in August, or am I in a special club?
I used to roll my eyes at people who did this, figured it was just careless, until I did the exact same thing at a Wawa with my kids screaming in the back seat. The whole thing cost me a tow fee, an hour of my life, and a lecture from my wife about not leaving the keys in the ignition. Turns out it's not carelessness, it's just being a human running on five hours of sleep, and that tow guy's number is proof we're all in the same dumb club.
