Spent 2 hours trying to get my car key out of the ignition before realizing the battery was dead

I sat there yanking and jiggling the key in a grocery store parking lot like an idiot, only to have a teenager walk by and calmly tell me it's a safety feature on Subarus from 2012 onward. Has anyone else spent way too long on something that had a dead simple fix they missed?

Wait, I'm gonna disagree here. That teenager probably saved you from breaking your ignition or your key, and honestly that safety feature keeps people from accidentally locking their keys in the car with the engine running. Seems like a pretty smart thing to have if you ask me.
