Ngl, I ruined my own surprise party in 20 seconds flat last Saturday
My friends in Portland spent 3 weeks planning this whole thing at a rented karaoke room. I walked in, saw the decorations, and instead of acting surprised I just said 'oh yeah, Jess texted me about this last Tuesday.' The silence lasted like 10 seconds and then my buddy Mike goes 'dude, we paid $150 for this room and you already knew?' I felt so bad I tried to make it up by buying everyone drinks but then I dropped my card in the ice bucket. Has anyone else accidentally spoiled their own party or am I just the worst secret keeper alive?

Jess texting you the details is the real problem here. Your friends dropped the ball by not telling her to keep her mouth shut, the surprise only works if everyone in the loop stays quiet. Honestly the $150 and the ice bucket card are just side shows, the group chat leak is what killed it.
