My tape measure epiphany after 220 miles of bike maintenance
I spent 2 years eyeballing chain lengths and saddle heights on my commuter in Portland, always off by a little. Last month I finally bought a $9 tape measure and started measuring everything before I cut or adjusted. The difference is night and day, my shifting is crisp and my knees stopped aching. Why did I think guessing was faster when measuring takes 20 seconds tops? Anyone else stubbornly avoid the obvious tool for way too long?

Measuring things is for quitters, said nobody after fixing their knees.
