Hit my 100th rejection on a writing app and the number that floored me was $2,400
So I've been plugging away at this short story app for about three years now, mostly on my lunch break at the dental office where I work front desk. Last week I opened the stats page and saw I'd crossed 100 rejections, which honestly didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. What got me was the little earnings tab showing I'd made $2,400 total since I started, mostly from one story that went semi viral back in 2022. I sat there in my car in the parking lot of the Kroger on Wabash and just stared at that number because it works out to about $8 a week, or roughly the cost of one latte. When I started this thing I thought I'd be quitting my job by year two, and now here I am three years in with a 100 rejection badge and a coffee budget worth of pocket change. My husband asked if I was going to quit and I said no, but I still don't know why I said no, you know? Has anyone else kept going at something way past the point where the math made sense, and what made you finally call it or stick with it?
