TIL a bike rack at the Denver airport taught me something about quick release levers

I was picking up a friend last Tuesday and walked past the long term bike parking. I saw at least five bikes where the front wheel quick release levers were pointing straight forward, parallel to the fork. It's a simple thing, but having them oriented wrong like that makes it way too easy for a thief to just open them and walk off with the wheel. I always point mine back toward the seat tube so they're tucked in. How many of you check this on every tune-up? It seems like such a small detail that makes a big difference.

I read a bike mechanic blog that said pointing the lever toward the seat tube isn't just for theft. It also keeps the lever from getting snagged on branches or cables if you ride off road. Makes total sense when you see it laid out like that.

Never thought of that, but @the_margaret makes a good point.
