Shoutout to the shop owner who talked me out of a full drivetrain swap
I spent like 3 weeks convinced my shifting problems meant I needed new chainrings, cassette, the whole thing. Had it all priced out at around $280. Then this older guy at the co-op in Portland took a look and just said "let me see your derailleur hanger" before I spent anything. Turns out it was bent maybe 2mm from a curb bump last month. He bent it back with a tool in 4 minutes, charged me nothing. Shifting has been perfect since. Kind of embarrassing but also made me realize how fast I jump to the expensive fix instead of checking the cheap stuff first. Has anyone else had a shop talk them down from a big job? Feels like that never happens anymore.
