Shoutout to the guy who showed me proper disc brake bleed order

After chasing a spongy lever for 6 months, I watched a shop mechanic do a full bleed on my Shimano XT setup and he started from the lever not the caliper and my brakes finally feel solid, has anyone else been doing it backwards this whole time?

Oh man, starting from the caliper is exactly what I did for years until a buddy finally showed me the light. It makes total sense though - air naturally wants to rise to the highest point, so pushing fluid from the lever down forces all those tiny bubbles out instead of trapping them in the system. My XT brakes felt like garbage for so long and I just assumed that's how they were supposed to feel lol.

What exactly happened that made you switch it up? Was it a specific job that went sideways?
