Overheard a pro mechanic say bottom bracket prep is overrated, so I tested it myself

I was at a group ride last Saturday and this old school bike builder goes "just grease the threads and send it, no need for that anti-seize or facing nonsense." Got me thinking so I tried his method on a Shimano BB I installed on a 2018 Fuji Roubaix. After 300 miles of commuting in the rain I pulled it out to check and the threads looked FINE, no creaking or corrosion at all. Makes me wonder how much of the "proper prep" stuff is just marketing hype for home mechanics. Has anyone else run a BB with just grease for a long time and had no issues?

Tbh I've done the same thing on my own bike for about 2 years now. Just a thin layer of marine grease on the threads and never had a single creak or corrosion issue.

Oh man, @janab82, that's great to hear you've had such solid luck with it.
