I finally compared silicone spray vs. wet lube on my commuter chain

I rode about 80 miles in the rain last month on my daily commute in Portland, and my wet lube turned into grinding paste after day 2. On a whim, I hosed off the drivetrain and hit it with silicone spray from the hardware store. The chain stayed quiet for almost two weeks with just reapplies every other day. No gunk, no black goo on my pants. Has anyone else tried this for city riding or am I just getting lucky?

Funny, I actually read somewhere that silicone spray works great in wet conditions because it doesn't attract grit.

Ha! So you found the secret cheat code too. It's kind of funny how we overthink these things. Everyone's chasing the perfect fancy bike lube but half the time the cheap stuff from the hardware store just works better for how we actually ride. I've noticed that pattern everywhere not just on bikes. People buy expensive "specialty" stuff when the simple solution was sitting right there the whole time. Your pants staying clean is the real win though. Nothing worse than showing up to work with a black stripe up your leg.
