Hot take: press fitting heads beats driving them in with a hammer every time
Rebuilt the lower headset on my 89 Rockhopper and tried both methods back to back on scrap cups. Pressing with a threaded rod and old washers seated them flush in about 30 seconds, while hammering took 4 tries and chewed up the cup edge. Anyone else have a homemade press setup that actually holds up?

Yes! Hammering wrecked my cups too, press is the way.
