Can we talk about stripping a stuck bottom bracket with a strap wrench and hearing it finally give
I picked up a 1980s Schwinn Le Tour off a guy in Portland for $40, and the drive side bottom bracket cup would not budge after two days of soaking it in Kroil. I clamped the frame in my stand, wrapped the cup with an old inner tube, and went at it with a strap wrench instead of my fixed tool, fully expecting the strap to slip. It broke loose on the third try, which was great, but I also learned the frame had a hairline crack near the drive side that I could not see under all the grime until the cup came out. Now I shine a light around every older steel frame before I even quote a repack. What do you all use to spot frame damage you cannot see by eye?
