Bought a $60 bike stand from an online flash sale last month, what a disaster
I saw this deal pop up for a portable bike stand, thought I was saving big money. Got it in the mail and the clamp barely holds my road bike, stripped the plastic tightening knob on the second use. Lost my whole $60 and now I need to buy a real Park Tool stand instead. Anyone else get burned by those too good to be true prices on bike tools?

Your $60 stand probably weighs like 8 pounds and has a plastic clamp. Park Tool stands start around $150 and go up to $400. The price difference is there for a reason - stronger metal parts, better design, and it actually lasts. I get that not everyone needs pro level gear, but calling out the guy for complaining about a plastic knob that stripped after two uses is kind of missing the point. Even cheap stuff should survive more than a couple rides before breaking. And being gentle with a plastic knob that's already cracking doesn't solve the problem, it just delays the inevitable. You got lucky with yours, but that doesn't mean the design isn't trash for most people.

Hold on, I gotta push back on this. I bought the same $60 stand from a flash sale and it's been fine for my aluminum road bike for six months now. You might have just gotten a bad unit or maybe you overtightened the clamp yourself. For sixty bucks you can't expect a shop quality stand that lasts forever, that's just common sense. People always want high end results from bargain bin prices and then act surprised when it doesn't work out. Park Tool stuff is great but it's also way more than most casual riders need. Maybe tighten the plastic knob gently and see if that helps before you swear off cheap tools forever.
