Am I the only one who was greasing pedal threads for years?

I used to always slather grease on pedal threads before installing them. Figured it was just standard practice to prevent seizing. Then about 6 months ago a customer brought in a set of pedals that kept backing off on their ride. While I was looking it up, I found a Park Tool video that said pedals should be installed dry with anti-seize compound on the spindle. Tried it on my own bike and haven't had a single pedal come loose since. Has anyone else made this same mistake or am I just late to the party?

Been there, I used to grease pedal threads too until a old mechanic told me grease makes them act like they're on teflon and they'll just wiggle loose. Anti-seize is the right call, keeps them from freezing but actually lets the pedals tighten up against the crank arm instead of slipping.

Honestly though, anti-seize can still let pedals back off if you don't torque them right.

Angela's right. Had a pedal work loose on me mid ride after using anti-seize, learned real quick that torque specs matter way more with that stuff.
