The pellet hopper in my back yard sat empty for 3 years, only I never noticed
I bought a used pellet smoker off Craigslist in Austin back in 2021, mainly for cold smoking cheese and bacon. Every time I used it, I loaded the hopper, set the dial, and walked away. Last month I went to pull the auger out for a deep clean and found a cracked weld where the auger tube meets the firebox. That crack sat there the whole time, leaking just enough smoke flavor to fool me into thinking the smoker was working right. I rebuilt the weld with a $18 angle grinder disk and some high temp JB Weld, and now the smoke output is twice as strong as it ever was. Makes me wonder how many other parts on my gear are failing slow without my notice. Has anyone else had a smoker or grill part give out so gradually you never caught it?
