Hot take: that $80 'competition grade' injection marinade was a total waste for my brisket
It made the meat way too salty and didn't improve the flavor over my basic rub, honestly felt like I just threw cash in the smoker. Anyone have a better injection recipe that actually works?

Man, I feel that. I once spent a fortune on some fancy wagyu tallow that just made everything taste like beefy candle wax. My go-to injection is just low-sodium beef broth with a little bit of apple cider vinegar and garlic powder.

Beefy candle wax is the perfect way to describe that, haha. I've been there too with some fancy fat that just left a weird coating in my mouth. Your injection mix is solid, I do almost the same but I add a splash of Worcestershire and a tiny bit of soy sauce for that umami kick. It's cheap, it's easy, and it never lets me down compared to those overpriced gimmicks. You ever try adding a pinch of smoked paprika to that mix?

Totally agree with @jordanl82. Honestly, those fancy fats are such a gamble. Your injection mix sounds way smarter and more reliable. Tbh, keeping it simple with stuff you know works is always the move. I've wasted too much money trying to be fancy.
