My one attempt at a fancy glaze set my grill on fire, so I feel for that guy. @the_henry, at least grape jelly is just a cleanup problem. Some experiments are best left in the kitchen.

Sounds like a sticky mess but not exactly a disaster. People try weird stuff at those contests all the time. It's just ribs, not a science project gone wrong.
