Two $5 lamps, picked the ugly one, zero regrets

At a church sale last Saturday I had to choose between a brass lamp with a scratched shade and a plain ceramic one with a crooked cord. I took the brass one because the shade was fixable with a quick rewire and a $4 fabric cover from the craft store. It's been on my nightstand for a week now and honestly looks better than anything I'd pay full price for. Anyone else grab the fixer-upper over the easy option just because it was cheaper?
