The Saturday I found a $3 bread maker and a $5 lamp that actually worked
A couple of summers back I hit three yard sales in one morning out in Beaverton and somehow bathed in luck, which almost never happens to me. First stop had a bread maker with the manual still taped to the lid for three bucks, and I figured it was dead weight but the lady swore it worked, so I gambled. Second stop was mostly baby clothes and sad furniture, but tucked under a card table was a brass desk lamp for five dollars that just needed a new cord. Third place was a bust, a guy selling rusted tools and asking more than new prices. What made that day stand out was how the old stuff held up, the bread maker cranked out a decent loaf that night and that lamp has sat on my desk for two years now. Feels like the good finds used to be everywhere and now I dig through bins of phone cases and cracked DVDs to find one thing worth carrying home. Do the rest of you still hit early Saturdays, or have the good sales mostly dried up in your area too?
