PSA: That $3 thrift store humidifier grew black stuff in my water tank in 5 days
Picked up a little Vicks-style warm mist humidifier at the Goodwill on Burnside in Portland last month for $3, thought I got a steal. Got it home, ran it in the bedroom, and by the fifth night the tank had a fuzzy black ring growing inside that I could not scrub off with vinegar. Turns out the old ones get tiny cracks in the plastic that hold water and nothing gets them clean. I tossed it, but now I'm side-eying every cheap one I see on the shelf. If you do buy one, check the tank against a flashlight before you hand over cash. Anyone know of a cheap model that's actually easy to scrub out, or are these all just a lost cause?
