Bought a $3 desk lamp at a garage sale in Tulsa, took me 3 hours to figure out why it kept flickering
It wasn't the bulb or the switch like I thought, it was a tiny crack in the solder joint on the cord where someone had yanked it too hard, and a $2 soldering iron from Harbor Freight fixed it in literally 10 seconds, so has anyone else wasted an afternoon on a fix that should have taken one minute?
A tiny crack in the solder joint, sure, but 3 hours is not a waste. You learned something about that lamp that no YouTube video could teach you, and now you will never look at a flickering cord the same way again. A $2 iron and 10 seconds of work only looks fast because of the 3 hours that came before it. Next time a lamp acts up you will go straight to the cord and save yourself the whole afternoon. That is not wasted time, that is paying for the lesson once and owning it forever.
