A guy at a garage sale said the junk jewelry box was worth digging through, and he was right
He charged me $3 for the whole box and said check the clasps first. Found a 1940s sterling pin in there that a dealer in Portland gave me $85 for, so now I dig through every cheap jewelry pile I see. What's the best thing you ever pulled out of a dollar box like that?
Man, those garage sale people who actually know their stuff are the best kind. Had a similar thing at an estate sale where the old guy running it told me to check the bottom of a shoe box full of random pins. Pulled out a WW2 era military pin that turned out to be silver. Not worth a ton but way more than the fifty cents I paid for the whole box. Stuff like that is why I can't walk past a junk jewelry pile without stopping. My wife hates it because I come home with bags of cheap chains and broken earrings every weekend. One time I found a real pearl earring mixed in with a pile of plastic ones, just sitting there by itself. Still keep it in a little jar on my dresser as a reminder to always look.
