Wasted $60 on that clipper sharpening stone set from Amazon
Bought a 3 piece stone set for $60 thinking I'd save money sharpening my own blades. First try ruined a $40 Wahl blade set because the stone wasn't flat and left grooves. Anyone else fall for that and just send them out now?

Did you check if the stones were lapped flat before you started using them? A lot of those cheap sets come with uneven surfaces straight out of the box, which is basically asking for trouble. Just a heads up for next time, lapping them on some sandpaper on glass can save a lot of headache lol.

Oh man, @the_jessica you're totally right about that! I actually just read an article from a woodworking blog that said the same thing about lapping stones. They mentioned that even some of the nicer brand stones can have high spots from manufacturing, so it's not just the cheap ones. I guess I was too excited to get started and skipped that step completely. Lesson learned for sure, lapping on sandpaper over glass is going to be part of my routine from now on.
