Wasted $120 on that 'professional' clipper blade sharpening service

Sent my favorite Wahl seniors to a mail-in sharpening place I found online. Got them back two weeks later and they pull hair worse than before. Had to spend another $80 on replacement blades from my local supply shop. Anyone else have better luck with a local sharpener or just replace blades every time now?

Oh man, I feel your pain on the wasted money. But you said they "pull hair worse than before" and I have to gently push back on something. In my experience, a freshly sharpened blade can feel different at first, not necessarily worse. A lot of times the issue is that the sharpener might have changed the blade's geometry slightly, or maybe the blade isn't seated properly after reassembly. I've sent blades out before and had them come back pulling, then realized I needed to zero-gap them again or check the tension on the cutter. And honestly, $80 for replacement Wahl Seniors blades sounds really steep to me. Your mileage may vary, but the Oster or Andis blades I get from my local shop are usually around $50-60 max. Might be worth checking if that local place also does sharpening in-house, because every time I've gone that route it's been way more reliable than mail order.

Ugh, the "pulling hair worse than before" thing really gets me because I've been there twice now. That bit about blade geometry change is spot on. First time I got a mail-in sharpening done, it came back feeling like it was chewing through my dog's coat, and I just assumed it was dull again. Turns out they messed with the alignment and I had to re-zero gap it myself. Second time I just went to a local guy who does it while I wait, cost me like $15 and worked perfect. Honestly, at $80 for replacements I'd be looking harder at that local shop because most cities have some old school barber supply that does sharpening way cheaper and more reliable than mailing things out.
