Was skeptical of clipper oil alternatives for years until a shop veteran showed me the light

I always thought you had to use the expensive branded clipper oil but this old timer in Detroit put me onto mineral oil from the drugstore. After 6 months of using it my blades run smoother and I save about $12 a month. Has anyone else made the switch or do you stick with the name brand stuff?

Dont sleep on food grade silicone lubricant either. I started using it on my clippers after a buddy who sharpens blades for a living told me most wear comes from the oil drying out too fast. Mineral oil is solid but silicone lasts way longer between applications, especially if you cut a lot of heads in one day. Plus it wont stain clothes or smell like a hospital. Only downside is you gotta clean the blades more thoroughly before switching over because mixing oils can gum things up pretty bad. Been using it for two years now and my blades have never been smoother.

Tried switching to food grade silicone once and ended up with a puddle of goo all over my kitchen counter because I forgot to clean the blades first. Felt REAL smart standing there with a greasy clipper in one hand and a paper towel in the other wondering where it all went wrong. But honestly once I got it right the difference was night and day. My clippers don't sound like they're about to take flight anymore which is a HUGE improvement from my old setup.
