Switched from thinning shears to a regular comb and shears for blending and wish I did it years ago

Been cutting hair for about 6 years now. Always used thinning shears to blend out the lines on fades and tapers. Last week I had a regular client, dude gets a high fade every 2 weeks. My thinning shears were getting dull and I was too lazy to go grab my backup pair from the truck. So I just used my regular straight shears and a fine tooth comb to texturize the blend. Took a little longer but the blend came out way cleaner. Less of that choppy look you can get with thinning shears if you're not careful. The guy even asked if I did something different because it felt smoother. Has anyone else made the switch and stuck with it? Or am I just late to the party?

Is it funny how we get stuck doing something a certain way just because that's how we learned it, even when there's a better way sitting right there? It's the same thing I see with guys who still use a manual can opener when the electric one takes half the effort.

I mean, are people really losing sleep over this? It's a can opener, not a life decision. Some people just like the manual one for a quick can of beans, no big deal.
