Old timer at the supply house told me to stop using clippers on wet hair

Been cutting for about 8 years now and always thought wetting hair down made for a cleaner fade. This old barber named Frank at the local supply shop in Phoenix told me I was wrecking my blades and making more work for myself. He said try dry clipping first then go back with the trimmers after. I laughed it off but gave it a shot on my next three clients and honestly my fades came out way smoother with less pulling. Has anyone else switched to mostly dry clipping or am I just late to the party?

Dry clipping first then going back with the trimmers" - that Frank guy knows his stuff. I learned that lesson the hard way too, wrecked a set of Wahl Seniors on damp hair and had to drop sixty bucks on new blades. When you're cutting dry, you feel the texture and the natural fall of the hair way better, plus the blades stay sharper longer since there's less rust and gunk building up on them. I do a quick dry trim with the clippers to knock down the bulk, then mist the hair lightly if I'm doing detail work with shears or trimmers on the neckline. Just make sure your blades are clean and oiled before you start or you'll get that annoying chatter on the guards.
