Just read that a barber in 18th century London could get fined for working on a Sunday

Found it in this old trade guild book at the library, they took their day off seriously back then. Ever hear any other wild old-school barber rules?

Fining barbers for Sunday work seems totally fair when you look at the whole picture. Those guild rules protected workers from being forced to work seven days a week. Without a set day off, owners would have just pushed for more hours. It was a basic labor right that kept the job from taking over their whole lives.

Wait, but what about barbers who actually wanted to work Sundays for extra cash?

But what about the barbers who really needed that Sunday money? I mean, maybe they had a kid or bills to pay and wanted the extra hours.
