I thought those new ceramic blade guards were just a gimmick

For months I ignored the hype about ceramic guards, sticking with my old metal ones. Then a barber friend in Austin let me try his on a busy Saturday. I did 12 fades back to back and the blades stayed cool to the touch the whole time. My usual guards would get warm after the 4th or 5th cut. The difference in comfort for the client was real, especially on skin fades. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a change in how your tools feel during a long day?

Okay but "cooking my fingers" feels like a bit much. My metal guards get warm for sure, but it's never been painful. It just seems like a small comfort thing, not a game changer. If your tools are getting that hot, maybe there's something else going on with the clipper itself. I just don't see the big deal for the extra cost.

Wait, your metal guards only get warm? Mine get legit hot to the touch after a few dogs, like can't-hold-them-hot. Maybe your clippers run cooler or something. That "cooking" feeling Brian mentioned is totally real for some of us.

My old shears used to get so hot they felt like they were cooking my fingers.
