I finally tried a 5-blade foil shaver after using a 3-blade for years in my shop

The extra blades gave me a smoother finish on tough beards in half the time, so has anyone else made the switch and noticed less irritation for their clients?

The real test is on sensitive skin, not just tough beards. More blades can sometimes mean more passes with less pressure, which actually reduces pulling. My clients with razor bumps saw a big improvement when I switched, because the shaver head glides over without digging in. It's less about the number and more about how the head is designed to float. A good five-blade system should cut the hair before it fully pulls up from the skin.

My old shop in Tampa had me using a five-blade for years, and I still saw plenty of irritation. Jason524 makes a good point about the floating head, but I found more blades just meant more chances to nick already sensitive skin on the neck.
